Type 2 Diabetics' Acidity Heightens Risk For Kidney Stones
Individuals with type 2 diabetes (non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus) are at increased risk for developing kidney stones in general, and have a particular risk for uric-acid stones. (Diabetic Complications and Type 2 Diabetes)

What Does It Mean When You Have Protein In The Urine?
Urine is essentially filtered blood. It is the result of blood pressed (by blood pressure) through a very good filter, one's kidneys.  Protein in the urine means a damaged urine filter, which often is the first evidence of kidney disease. (Diabetic Complications, Kidney Disease)

Why You Shouldn't Wait
People with type 2 diabetes - often bungle, misunderstand, or simply ignore the crucial moment when blood sugar tests reveal that diabetes is progressing. (Diabetic Complications, Heart Attack, Stroke)

Stress
Stress results when something causes your body to behave as if it were under attack. When stress occurs, the body prepares to take action. This preparation is called the fight-or-flight response. In people who have diabetes, the fight-or-flight response does not work well. Insulin is not always able to let the extra energy into the cells, so glucose piles up in the blood. (Stress, Diabetic Complications, High Blood Sugar)

Are Leg Cramps Caused By Diabetes?
Leg cramps can be caused by a variety of reasons such as deficiencies in vitamins such as calcium and magnesium as well as diabetic neuropathy. (Neuropathy, Leg Cramps, Diabetic Complications)

Baby Boomers First Generation With Shorter Life Spans Than Their Parents
Baby boomers might be the first generation to enter retirement in worse health than their parents, according to a growing body of evidence, the Washington Post reports. (High Cholesterol, High Blood Pressure, Baby Boomers, Diabetic Complications)

Study Links High Blood Sugar And Cancer Risk
A large European study has found that people with high blood sugar levels are at an increased risk of developing cancer, even when they do not have overt signs of diabetes. This study adds to evidence that abnormal sugar metabolism (which usually includes insulin resistance, high sugar levels and high insulin levels) can be cancer-promoting. (Cancer, High Blood Sugar, Insulin Resistance, Diabetic Complications)

Folic Acid
The right amount of folic acid in your blood can go a long way to squashing your vulnerability to cardiovascular disease. (Cardiovascular Disease, Folic Acid, Diabetic Complications)

Omega-3 - More Than A Fish Tale
Eating a diet rich in omega-3 fats seems especially important for people with diabetes, whose risk of heart disease is three times higher than normal. (Heart Disease, Diabetic Complications, Omega-3 Fats, Fish Oil)

Fish Is Health Insurance And Most Of Us Lack Enough Coverage
Eat fish! You've heard it before, but now the case is so compelling that you absolutely must pay attention or face overwhelming health risks. Fish's secret is its unique oil (omega-3 fatty acids), which is essential for proper cell functioning. (Omega-3 Fats, Fish Oil, Heart Attack, Stroke, Diabetic Complications)

Bladder Neuropathy - Neurogenic Bladder
Three different types of nerves control how your bladder functions. Damage to any of these nerves can cause problems with the way the bladder functions. This type of problem is often called bladder neuropathy, bladder dysfunction, or neurogenic bladder. (Autonomic Neuropathy,  Diabetic Complications)

The Diabetes-Parkinson's Connection
Finnish researchers have turned up a disturbing link between diabetes and Parkinson's disease, the nervous system disorder that leads to muscle tremors and paralysis. (Diabetic Complications, Parkinson's Disease, Nervous System Disorders)

Diabetic Men Have Low Testosterone Levels
According to this study, after adjusting for waist-hip ratios, diabetic men were 3 times as likely as nondiabetic men to have low free testosterone levels and twice as likely to have low total testosterone levels. (Type 2 Diabetes, Testosterone, Diabetic Complications)

Bowel Cancer Risk Higher for Men with Diabetes
Having diabetes apparently raises men's risk of developing colorectal cancer. After factoring in age and other variables, the researchers found that diabetes was associated with a 49 percent higher likelihood of developing both colon and rectal cancer. (Diabetic Complications, Colon Cancer)

Getting The Magic Back
High blood sugar damages the blood vessels and nerves that are necessary for normal sexual function and response. Keeping blood sugar under control is vital to preserving your sexual health. (Diabetic Complications, Sexual Health)

a study by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, conducted from 1983 to 1993 in people with Type 1 diabetes. The study showed that intensive therapy compared to conventional therapy significantly helped prevent or delay diabetes complications. Intensive therapy included multiple daily insulin injections or the use of an insulin pump with multiple blood glucose readings each day. Complications followed in the study included diabetic retinopathy, neuropathy and nephropathy.
